Trauma Therapy- Kids’ Space

Casey* was abused by his step-dad over a two year period. He disclosed to his grandparents, who then told Casey’s mom. His mom filed a police report and he was brought to Kids’ Space for his forensic interview and exam. While Casey was receiving services that day, his mom, Sasha*, met with our Family Advocate who offered to make a referral for therapy services to the family. Sasha initially declined this offer, but several months later decided that therapy would be helpful for Casey. He was referred to our in-house clinician, so he has continued to visit Kids’ Space throughout his case. Kids’ Space has become associated with safety and healing for Casey and his mom. Sasha, has been amazing from day one: supporting and believing her son every step of the way. A year after Casey’s initial disclosure to his grandparents, this brave little guy took the stand and testified against his abuser. At the time of the trial Casey was still attending his therapy services. As a result, he was coping quite well and did amazing on the stand. Casey’s perpetrator was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison! After the jury trial Casey and his mom came back to Kids’ Space with their Advocate and together they all popped confetti poppers in our parking lot to celebrate the end of the trial. Casey is still currently in therapy and moving towards successful completion. It is awesome to see how resilient children can be with the right supports, like trauma therapy.
